Novel Update: Chapters I - III

So I have not updated in forever. Unfortunately, I am proving inept at taking pictures for my adventures so I must steal them from others on Facebook. I will credit you if I do steal them.

Chapter I - Basketball Game
So I finally got to play in our first provincial league game. We play 2 games a month in Jeonju. It was really fun to play organized basketball on regulation hoops. Our team is not very good, but it is still a lot of fun. Our uniforms are also KILLER. I feel so legit wearing them. The Gochang BLAST.

The first game I missed the first quarter due to traffic, but the opponents were thankfully not that good. We ended up winning by 2 points. I think my statline was like - 8pts, 8 boards, countless turnovers. It is really easy to get 3 seconds called on you in these trapezoid international boxes.

The second came was a lot more fun, as we played the team that won the league 2 years ago. They moved up a division since they won 2 years ago, but they came back down back to the lower levels. We ended up losing  42-32. It was really fun. I scored 22 :) 8-8 on the free throw line. I think we could have won if our other good players didn't drink so hard the night before. Our best guard was hungover ha ha.

I look forward to this month's game.
On a side note, there was one guy who was REALLY GOOD in the game before our second one. He was also barking in English so I assume he is KA like me...

The state is set...

This guy at the free throw line JUMPED for free throws. A lot of Koreans do though for some reason.

Harking back to myspace... Its not a good picture but the uniform is HOT.

Chapter II - Gwangju, Naju
The same weekend I went to Gwangju / Naju for a Fulbrighter's birthday. It was a surprise that worked to perfection. He was told that nobody could come to his birthday. Little did he know that 20 people were waiting for him in Gwangju. It was a great surprise. I'm sure it helped my friend really appreciate the community we established since July. :)

We went out for drinks met friends and had a great time.

We finally got to go dancing where the majority of people were Korean. I flashed back to my realization that dance is perhaps the supreme form of sublime beauty in the face of human impermanence. Basically, I danced my heart out. This time I wore an undershirt so I didn't get all sweaty and gross afterwards. Lesson learned.

Sorry H. You swiveled your head...

Ah everybody is okay here.

All of us. S and I awkwardly have our hands on the birthday unicorn.

Catching up. Mingling. Fun.

The next morning we went to Naju for a hike. It was nice to go to a quiet town compared to the lively Gwangju. The air was fresh, the people were more down to Earth. We went up to a pavilion on a mountain armed with pears and drinks and had a grand ole time. We must have freaked out a lot of the Koreans who were there.

[I have a video here that won't upload for some reason. I'll attach it again later]

After this, I went home to start the next week.

Chapter III - Cheonan Seoul
This past weekend was really full too. I went to Cheonan for the International Dance Festival and another ETA birthday. The first night I sang in Noraebang and discovered my latent talents for Nickelback, Creed, and Linkin Park. I guess they are the best of the best huh? We also had dinner at New Village Restaurant, which is a grilling place. I thought it was good but many of my colleagues disagree. We checked out early that night after Noraebang and went to bed.

This is a Krispy Kreme in Cheonan. NC throw your hands up for Globalization!

Hip-hop club of a local university performing. They were quite good too...

The next day a lot more ETAs filtered into the city. We were about 16 strong. We stayed in Seoul for a lil bit for the festival then left for Seoul. We missed our first train and most of us had to stand on the next train. I just watched GLEE and it was all good. Upon arriving in Seoul, we freshened up and went out to NB1 and had a blast. I have this habit of regularly shutting clubs DOWN, and this was no exception. I don't know if I am being too ETA-centric, but I feel that we are regularly the pulse of the party.

Lets guess which one is Anthony's!!!!

The next day for me was family time, though I was drowsy because of a lack of sleep for the past two nights. I met a cousin of mine who is now pregnant! It was exciting to catch up a bit, meet her husband, and see their lifestyle. So much as changed right..? Its crazy. To add to the crazy, I called my aunt and uncle in the States today and they said that Emily just got her permit. Yikes. I feel so old its incredible....

I do have some videos I will upload so don't worry about that. Keep it real until next time.
